To celebrate its upcoming 75th anniversary, Tanner Health invited area business leaders to a special Eat & Greet Breakfast on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Tanner Resource Center in Carrollton.
About 100 attendees celebrated and networked with Tanner Health leadership over a breakfast of waffles, bacon, eggs, fruit, coffee and juice.
“I think it’s appropriate that as part of the 75th anniversary, we are having a leadership breakfast, because that’s really the story of Tanner,” said Daniel Jackson, chairman of Tanner Health’s Board of Directors. “If we go back to the late 1940s, leadership saw a need, saw an opportunity. And leadership, back in the late ‘40s determined we need for our own hospital. That hospital opened in 1949. And now, 75 years later, we’ve watched as Tanner has grown and as our community has grown. The reality is, the reason Tanner has enjoyed success is leadership. … And we all know we have been blessed by that leadership.”
Following Jackson’s invocation, Tanner Health President and CEO Loy Howard served up a hearty helping of inspiration as he led a presentation called “Celebrating 75 Years: Our Past, Present and Future.”
“We are very excited to celebrate our 75th anniversary today, especially with the Chamber of Commerce,” said Howard. “The origins of Tanner came from community leaders coming together and thinking about how to make the community better. That’s what the chamber does each day. To celebrate the success of Tanner and note the success of Southwire, which began the year after Tanner, is a great way to reflect and also to challenge this group to go out and make the community a better place to live. Never underestimate the impact you can make when you take on a project — especially when it’s involved in making the community better.”
Eat & Greet Breakfast registrations supported Tanner Medical Foundation’s Mammogram Assistance Fund. Mammograms are the best screening tool for detecting breast cancer early. When cancer is found before it spreads, it’s easier to treat.
In the last fiscal year, through the generosity of individual donors and community partners, Tanner Medical Foundation was able to provide lifesaving screenings and — in some cases — diagnostic mammograms for 72 people in our community. Cost is a barrier for many when it comes to receiving the appropriate breast health screenings – especially for those without insurance or the ability to pay.
The Eat & Greet Breakfast was part of Tanner Health's celebration of its first 75 years since Tanner Memorial Hospital opened in Carrollton in 1949.
Several scheduled events are intended to honor the first visionaries who found a way forward to give their neighbors and loved ones a new level of care — and the legacy of those who followed to ensure that care would always be available near home. This major milestone also provided a unique opportunity to rebrand from Tanner Health System to Tanner Health, with a new logo and a new tagline: Your care, redefined.
