Spiritual Services

Pastoral care in your time of need

We realize that a hospital stay can be a frightening, anxious and lonely experience. Tanner chaplains are available to provide spiritual and emotional support to patients and their families and friends.

Our chaplains meet your spiritual needs by listening to their concerns and exploring ways you can feel connected to your source of strength. By offering a calm, non-judgmental presence, chaplains provide a safe place for patients to talk about what matters to them.

Prayer and administering sacraments, bereavement care and spiritual counsel — as well as discussion surrounding advance directives — are some of the ways that chaplains attend to the whole person: body, mind and spirit.

Notifying outside clergy

Tanner chaplains can contact outside clergy upon request by a patient or family member in the event that the chaplain is unable to administer particular sacraments or rituals or if the patient requests the presence of their own clergyperson.

Chapel and resources

Most Tanner Health System facilities have a chapel or quiet space devoted to spiritual care. These spaces are open 24 hours a day for use by our patients, families and staff.

Special services may also be conducted in our chapel. Sacred texts and other spiritual literature are available upon request or can be found in the chapel.

Contacting a chaplain

During regular business hours, our staff chaplains can be contacted at 770-812-9461. After regular business hours and on weekends, dial "0" and the operator will page the on-call chaplain.
