Carrying around an extra “COVID 15” in weight from a little physical activity and a lot of quarantine eating?
Wishing you could lace up your running shoes and cut loose for a refreshing run in the cooler Fall temperatures?
Move It Mondays — from Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy Live Well (GHLW) — is an eight-week program designed to turn walkers into runners and is a great way to reclaim your healthy weight and fitness goals. The next session starts on Sept. 14 and runs through Nov. 2 — just in time for Fall.
In partnership with the West Georgia Track Club, GHLW developed the free program to help participants add distance and increase their pace over the course of eight weeks. Move it Mondays has certified coaches and experienced runners available to encourage and motivate participants.
“Being active for just 30 minutes a day, five days a week, is a great way to get and stay in shape. It has been hard for many of us to stay physically active these past six months with many gyms and recreational facilities closed due to COVID-19 and, of course, our always hot Georgia summers. We planned our next Move It Mondays Fall 2020 session for when the temperatures drop, we still have evening light and the leaf color pops — it’s a great time to be outside and moving around,” said Patricia Mitchell, GHLW wellness and prevention coordinator.
The Fall 2020 session will begin on September 14 and be held each Monday at 6 p.m. at the Tanner walking trail located on the Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton campus. Parking is available on the third level of the Clinic Avenue Parking Deck. Social distancing and face masks are required. Registration for Move It Mondays is required online at http://www.gethealthylivewell.org. There are 40 available spots in the class.
Move It Mondays is part of GHLW’s efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent chronic disease for residents in Carroll, Haralson and Heard counties. According to the American Heart Association, 30 minutes of physical activity a day, five days a week, can reduce the risk of cancer, depression, heart disease, high cholesterol, obesity, osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes.
“We are grateful to the West Georgia Track Club for their continued partnership. Their members provide encouragement and advice that help participants get on track with a health and wellness program that is right for them,” said Mitchell.
