In May 2021, Tracie and Joey Hunt faced one of the most traumatic experiences of their lives. Joey developed a severe case of COVID-19 pneumonia and was treated at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton’s COVID-19 unit for 18 long days.
During his time at Tanner, there was a severe six-day period in which Joey Hunt had complete memory loss.
Tracie Hunt credits the doctors and – especially – nurses with saving her husband’s life. She shared that their family cannot thank the nurses enough for their care they provided for her husband.
The experience gave the Hunts a whole new level of appreciation for one of the easiest ways to express gratitude to caregivers: complete the after-visit surveys the hospital sends.
“When I couldn’t tell my husband I loved him, they did,” she said. “I wonder how many patients each day they told that they were loved.” Since their COVID-19 experience in May 2021, the Hunts have a special appreciation for the nurses at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.
Growing up with a nurse as a mother, Tracie Hunt has been exposed to the profession her entire life. She respects the work and effort that her own mother dedicated to the field. Mrs. Hunt expressed the importance of compassion, kindness, and love when it comes to patient care.
“I know they must bring us home with them, because we carry them home with us – all they did for us,” she said. The Hunt’s experience with Tanner was one they will never forget due to the personal relationships they established with the nursing staff.
Tracie Hunt feels passionately about completing the surveys that patients receive post-visit. “These surveys really help the hospital understand what patients and their families experience,” she said. “We fill them out every time, so they know how much we appreciate the care we were given.”
Not only does the feedback lead to improved patient care, but it can credit nurses and doctors who went above and beyond in providing exceptional care.
Tracie Hunt encourages people to complete post-visit surveys distributed by Tanner Health System. Completed surveys play a critical role regarding improved overall patient care and experience at all the health systems and clinics.
