Tanner Health is pleased to announce the launch of its comprehensive Interventional Radiology (IR) program.
Led by distinguished interventional radiologist Suhag Patel, MD, at Summit Radiology Services, this program will provide patients throughout west Georgia and east Alabama with access to advanced minimally invasive, image-guided procedures that can diagnose and treat complex conditions with less pain, reduced risk and shorter recovery times compared to traditional surgery.
“We’re bringing cutting-edge interventional procedures to our community that previously required patients to travel to Atlanta or Birmingham,” said Suhag Patel, MD, medical director of interventional radiology at Tanner Health. “Our comprehensive IR program will provide a wide range of advanced treatments, from cancer therapies and pain management solutions to vascular and women’s health procedures. This allows us to treat more patients close to home with techniques that minimize recovery time and complications.”
The program will offer numerous specialized procedures, including tumor embolization and ablation for cancer patients, uterine fibroid embolization, prostate artery embolization, kyphoplasty for spinal compression fractures, and various vascular and GI interventions. Emergency services will include critical procedures such as embolization for active bleeding and drainage procedures for septic patients.
“The addition of this comprehensive Interventional Radiology program represents Tanner’s ongoing commitment to expanding specialized healthcare services throughout our region,” said Loy Howard, President and CEO of Tanner Health. “By bringing these advanced minimally invasive procedures closer to home, we’re enhancing our clinical capabilities, improving access to care and reducing the travel burden on our patients and their families. This program aligns perfectly with our mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.”
Interventional Radiology represents one of medicine’s most rapidly advancing fields. It uses image guidance (such as X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, and MRI) to perform minimally invasive procedures that can replace many traditional open surgeries.
These procedures typically involve smaller incisions, reduced pain, fewer complications and significantly faster recovery times.
Patients seeking more information about interventional radiology services at Tanner should speak with their primary care physician or specialist about a referral. Healthcare providers can contact the IR department directly at 770-812-5017.
