Food Collaborative’s Meeting to Feature Guest Speaker From The Food Trust

The public is invited to join Get Healthy, Live Well volunteers and stakeholders from west Georgia with an interest in food and nutrition for the Aug. 13 meeting of the West Georgia Regional Food Collaborative.
The meeting, which will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Classroom 2 of the Health Education and Wellness Learning Center at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, will feature guest speaker Juell Stewart (pictured at right), project coordinator from The Food Trust in Philadelphia, Pa.
For more than 20 years, The Food Trust has been working to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food and information to make healthy decisions.The Food Trust's comprehensive approach includes improving food environments and teaching nutrition education in schools; working with corner store owners to increase healthy offerings and helping customers make healthier choices; managing farmers' markets in communities that lack access to affordable produce; and encouraging grocery store development in underserved communities.
Stewart uses her expertise in city planning and economic development to collaborate with the public, private and government sectors to develop strategies to bring healthy retail to urban and rural communities. She has a master’s in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
