Don’t let the lazy days of summer keep you from reaching your health goals.
Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well is inviting you to make this your #SummerOfHealth! As part of the campaign, Get Healthy, Live Well will be using social media to offer a series of healthy lifestyle challenges throughout the summer and encouraging the community to share what they are doing to get and stay healthy this summer by posting pictures or making comments on social media with the hashtag #SummerOfHealth.
Challenges will include the “Active Minutes, Active Health Challenge,” “Go for 5 Fruit and Veggie Challenge” and “Hydrate, Don’t Wait Challenge.”
“Get Healthy, Live Well is using social media to help the community get excited about eating healthy and getting more physical activity this summer,” said Tanner Community Health Director Amy Riedesel. “Whether you’re sitting down to eat a healthy meal or taking a bike ride on the Carrollton GreenBelt, this campaign will give you an opportunity to join the conversation about the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle.”
Some other fun activities to engage in this summer include gardening, hiking, playing sports and swimming.
But that’s not all — Get Healthy, Live Well is also organizing a series of Kids Activity Days in west Georgia. Each event will be free and open to the public.
On Friday, June 16, Get Healthy, Live Well staff will host a morning of fun, family-friendly activities focusing on healthy eating and physical activity at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton in Classroom 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. On Thursday, July 27, staff will be at the new Villa Rica Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
To sign up for Kids Activity Day, visit www.GetHealthyLiveWell.org. Registration is required.
In addition, Get Healthy, Live Well will be participating in the “Books Alive” program at Sewell Mill in Bremen from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 8 and the “Build a Better Body” event at the Neva Lomason Memorial Library in Carrollton from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20.
Get Healthy, Live Well’s Power of Produce (POP) Club also returns this summer, beginning in June. The POP Club, a nationally-recognized program to empower kids to make healthy food choices, will be back at the Cotton Mill Farmers’ Market at 609 Dixie Street in Carrollton on the first and third Saturdays through September. The club will also be at the Highway 78 Farmer and Craft Market at 106 Temple Street in Villa Rica on the first and third Tuesdays through September.
The free program, which is for children ages 4 to 12, will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. The club provides an opportunity for children to engage in the local food system through fun learning activities. After participating in the activities, each child receives $2 in POP Bucks to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables at the farmers’ market.
Get Healthy, Live Well is led by Tanner Health System and funded in part by a Partnerships to Improve Community Health (PICH) grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
