Living with an ongoing health condition and want to be in better control of your symptoms?
Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well is offering a free, six-session Living Well Workshop that teaches participants how to manage any health condition, including arthritis, autoimmune conditions, cancer, chronic lung conditions, depression, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and more. Participants learn effective strategies to manage their symptoms with the support of certified coaches and other workshop attendees facing similar health concerns.
The workshop can help participants cope with pain, improve nutrition through healthy eating, gain skills in managing medications and work through difficult emotions. It can also help improve communication with family, friends and health professionals.
“When you have an ongoing health condition, you can feel like you’ve got a huge mountain to climb,” said Patricia Mitchell, wellness and prevention coordinator at Get Healthy, Live Well. “This workshop teaches participants to set smaller goals and make an action plan around it.”
Those goals can include exercising more or using relaxation techniques.
“It can even be something like, ‘I'm going to go out and see this friend of mine that I have not seen since I’ve had this health condition because I don't socialize anymore,’” said Mitchell. “And that's something we teach them in this class — how to socialize again.”
Developed by Stanford University, this six-week, evidenced-based workshop helps people with one or more health conditions gain confidence and make healthy lifestyle changes. Get Healthy, Live Well’s Living Well Workshop is available to anyone living with an ongoing health condition. Classes will be held at various times and locations throughout Carroll, Haralson and Heard counties.
