Surgeons to Discuss Latest Innovations on Oct. 15

Surgery isn’t the ordeal that it used to be. Ryan Davis, MD

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, three general surgeons and a gynecology and obstetrics specialist will lead a free discussion on how new techniques and technologies are making surgery safer — and recoveries faster.

Ryan Davis, MD, an obstetrician and gynecologist with Tanner Healthcare for Women, will join general surgeons José Espinel, MD, Austin Lewis, MD, and Jon Stanford, MD, with Carrollton Surgical Group to talk about the minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgical options now available in the region.

The discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Classrooms A and B at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica. Registration is required, and participants can register online at tanner.org/minimal or by calling 770-214-CARE (2273).

Light refreshments will be served. The Education and Conference Center at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica is located on the third floor of the VillaWest medical office building.

The surgeons will discuss how minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery can provide lasting relief for chronic heartburn, repair hernias, treat varicose veins and more. The discussion will also include surgical approaches specific to women’s health, from the treatment of uterine issues to hysterectomy, as well as minimally invasive and robotic-assisted approaches to colorectal surgery.

The surgeons will also demonstrate Tanner Health System’s latest surgical innovation, the da Vinci X surgical robot system, now available in the new surgical services center at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica.

“Small Incisions, Big Difference” is perfect for anyone who has been told that surgery is an option for their condition, but who has been putting it off because they fear missing work or a long, painful recovery.

Unlike traditional surgery, minimally invasive techniques use a series of tiny incisions, leading to less blood loss, a reduced risk of complications like infection, and a faster, more comfortable recovery. In addition, surgeons at Tanner also have the option of offering robotic-assisted procedures, providing unparalleled precision so even more complicated procedures can be offered with the benefits of a minimally invasive approach.
Austin Lewis, MD
The discussion is part of Tanner’s Advancing Your Health Education Series, providing free health information from the region’s leading health experts on a wide range of topics, including heart disease, orthopedics, digestive health and more. Other upcoming educational opportunities can be found in the Classes and Events calendar at tanner.org/calendar.
