UWG, Tanner Partner to Host 5K, Fun Run

The University of West Georgia (UWG) and Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well are inviting the public to have some fun, show its UWG spirit and join a run that benefits the Carrollton GreenBelt, which winds through the university’s campus.

Hundreds of area residents are expected to converge in Carrollton on Thursday, Oct. 20, for UWG’s Third Annual Presidential 5K Spirit Run.

In partnership with UWG, Get Healthy, Live Well is also hosting a 1-mile Superhero Fun Run. The first 150 kids who register will receive a cape in their registration packets.

“Good health helps improve all aspects of life,” said UWG President Dr. Kyle Marrero. “We encourage students, faculty and staff — as well as our friends and neighbors in Carroll County — to join us in this event and make time for exercise as part of their daily routines. Thanks to Tanner for partnering with us as we share the value of good health and the benefits of the GreenBelt.”

The event will include activities, games, healthy snacks and water for the kids. Both races start at 6 p.m., beginning and ending at The Coliseum on the UWG campus. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Carrollton GreenBelt.

“This race provides the perfect opportunity for adults and children to not only get more physical activity into their days, but also have fun,” said Patricia Mitchell, wellness and prevention coordinator at Get Healthy, Live Well. “We are inviting the community to come out and run with their little superheroes.”

Winners in the 5K will be recognized immediately following the race. In addition to awards for race winners, there will be prizes for the most spirited costumes. Participants are asked to stick around for UWG’s Homecoming Glow Parade.

Packet pickup will be available on Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the UWG Alumni House. Pick up will also be available on race day from 5 to 6 p.m. at The Coliseum starting line.

Race Fees and Registration:
$15 per person for UWG students and children under 12
$25 per person pre-registration
$30 per person on race day
$80 for a team of four
$10 per person for the 1-mile Superhero Fun Run
