2014 Magnolia Ball benefits child and adolescent unit expansion

With the leadership of Co-chairs Mrs. Annette Jones and Mrs. Nichole Pezold, more than 200 volunteers brought the 24th annual Magnolia Ball to Carrollton on the grounds of the Richards’ family estate on April 26. The rich history and timeless tradition of the first jewel of horse racing’s Triple Crown was the inspiration for the 2014 Magnolia Ball "Kentucky Derby."
Mrs. Jackie Carden was the honorary chair of the ball. The Carrollton native’s deep ties to Tanner Health System is rooted in her grandfather’s work. During his distinguished career as a physician, Dr. W. A. Aderhold delivered more than 2,000 babies in Carroll County and was on the original staff of Tanner Medical Center.
Serving with Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Pezold on the 2014 Magnolia Ball Executive Committee are Mr. Jim Gill as Sponsorship Vice-Chair, Auction Vice-Chairs Leanna Schulenburg and Erica Tisinger, and Decorations Vice-Chairs Susan Martin and Tina Reid. The rich history and timeless tradition of the “Kentucky Derby” will be celebrated at the 2014 Magnolia Ball on the grounds of the Richards’ family estate in Carrollton.
The Magnolia Ball featured an auction, dinner and dancing. The black-tie gala raised more than $500,000 to support a 30-bed expansion of the child and adolescent unit at Willowbrooke at Tanner in Villa Rica. The need for expanded services for the child and adolescent population has grown considerably in the region.
The facility’s current 12-bed unit often operates at capacity, and it is the only inpatient pediatric behavioral health and substance abuse program in 19 counties authorized and willing to accept pediatric patients covered by traditional Medicaid.
“We are deeply grateful to the individuals and companies that supported the ball through sponsorships, donations and in-kind services, as well as by attending and bidding during the auction,” said Tanner Medical Foundation Director, Kathy Mathis. “The commitment of our community to this vital cause is truly inspiring.”
Each year, more than 200 volunteers work together to present the annual Magnolia Ball, assisting with every detail — from invitations to auction preparations and decorations. In addition, more than 350 individuals and companies support the ball through sponsorships, cash donations, donated auction items and in-kind services.
