2025 Insurance Update

Tanner Health providers participate in many health insurance plans and provider networks for various types of coverages. This site provides basic information to educate you about recent managed care plan changes along with what insurance plans Tanner providers participate.

The primary change occurring Jan. 1, 2025, is that Tanner Health providers will no longer be Participating Providers with Humana Medicare Advantage PPO. You can find specific information related to this change at Humana Insurance Update - Tanner Health.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

What are Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage?

Original Medicare is federal health insurance for people aged 65 and older and others under 65 with certain disabilities or conditions. Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) can be purchased from many insurance companies to lower a Medicare beneficiary's share of out-of-pocket costs in Original Medicare.

Medicare Advantage plans are offered by a private Medicare insurance plan that contracts directly with the government as an alternative to Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans still require beneficiaries to pay the Medicare Part B premium, and there could be an additional premium based on the plan. The plan determines the deductibles and copays along with an annual out-of-pocket limit. The plan may also utilize a Provider Network that may differentiate benefits and out-of-pocket expenses based on utilization of a Participating or Non-Participating Provider or may not cover services provided by Non-Participating Providers.

What is open enrollment for Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage?

Every year, open enrollment runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, and changes made go into effect on Jan. 1 of the following year. People can review plans offered in their area and make changes to their Medicare coverage. These changes can include switching from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (or vice versa), switching between Medicare Advantage plans and electing or switching Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.

Medicare Advantage enrollees also can change plans or switch to traditional Medicare between Jan. 1 through March 31, which is called the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period.

If you miss these windows to make updates, you may have to wait until the next enrollment period to make any changes.

Which Medicare Advantage plans does Tanner Health accept?

While Tanner will no longer be a Participating Provider with the Humana Medicare Advantage PPO plan as of Jan. 1, 2025, there are other Medicare Advantage plans in which Tanner participates.

Below is a list of Tanner-participating Medicare and Medicare Managed Plans to refer to during your open enrollment.

Managed Care PLAN Participation: January 2025

Tanner Health Hospitals and Tanner Medical Group practices participate in the following

medical health plans as of January 1, 2025. Tanner Health does not guarantee participation with
all insurance plan products, which may be defined by the insurance payer. Please verify with the
insurance payer to confirm participating status.

Tanner will provide services to patients with insurance coverage in which Tanner does not
participate when the patient’s plan has out-of-network benefits, and the plan authorizes
the services if required. The patient may experience higher out-of-pocket expenses by utilizing
Tanner for out-of-network benefit coverage. These out-of-pocket expenses may include higher
deductibles, copayment, coinsurance, etc.

Some Medicare Advantage products have the same coverage, regardless of whether the patient
receives care from a Participating or non-Participating Provider. The product has the same patient
out-of-pocket expense (copay, deductible, etc.) for in-network and out-of-network Providers
(i.e., Georgia State Health Benefit Plan Health Plan through United Healthcare and Blue Cross).
Please review the terms of policy coverage or contact your insurance company with any specific
questions about coverage.
