With outstanding support from the community, Tanner Hospice Care’s 27th Annual Holiday Food Sale raised $14,263 to the care of the terminally ill throughout west Georgia. This represented an increase of more than $3,000 from the year before to help supplement patient care expenses such as medications, supplies and medical care.
Tanner Hospice Care volunteers and staff hosted the annual food sale at First Baptist Church in Carrollton. Delicious pies, savory sides and other homemade goods were prepared by more than 400 local chefs and brought to First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church of Bremen, Fullerville Baptist Church and Bowdon First United Methodist Church. Walker Meats once again generously loaned their refrigerated truck to keep the food fresh.
They were joined by 55 area restaurants, seven local banks and the students of Shannon Bright’s Healthcare Occupation Science class of Carrollton High School in making this food sale possible.
The students volunteered the day before the sale by organizing the food and displaying it for easy pick up. Other students and faculty of Carrollton High School raised $1,000 for Tanner Hospice Care through a spare change drive and school fundraisers.
Hundreds of community members lined up outside the doors of First Baptist Church in Carrollton on Nov. 17 in anticipation of the delicious food they would be buying to bring home for Thanksgiving. Many patrons commented that they came for some delicious treats but also to support such a valuable resource in our community.
Tanner Hospice Care recently received national recognition, earning the 2018 Superior Performer award from Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP), a leader in healthcare data analytics and benchmarking. The award signifies ranking in the top 20% nationally in quality measures in the SHP national CAHPS Hospice benchmarks for family and caregiver satisfaction.
All proceeds from the Food Sale benefit Tanner Hospice Care, the region’s only community-based, nonprofit hospice service.
“This is such a special community tradition,” said Susan Fleck, Tanner Hospice Care volunteer and chair of Tanner Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “It’s inspiring to be part of an event that literally brings generations together for a fun experience that also helps so many people in need. I’m really proud to be part of the Hospice Food Sale every year.”
