American Cancer Society Seeking Licensed Cosmetologists to Teach Look Good…Feel Better Classes for Women Cancer Patients at Tanner

Being diagnosed with cancer can be overwhelming. And for women cancer patients, cancer treatments can have a physical and emotional impact on their appearance and self-esteem.
The American Cancer Society needs licensed cosmetologists to help women cancer patients improve their appearance and regain their confidence through its Look Good…Feel Better program at Tanner Breast Health in Carrollton.
Look Good…Feel Better, celebrating 25 years of service this year, is a collaboration of the American Cancer Society, the Personal Care Products Council Foundation and the Professional Beauty Association. The free program serves 50,000 women each year and is available throughout the United States. Every cancer patient attending a group session receives a complimentary demonstration that includes free cosmetic samples. Patients also have a chance to talk with other cancer patients going through similar experiences. The program is non-medical, free of charge and product neutral.
“I think the program is very empowering for the participants and extremely rewarding for those providing assistance,” said Venita Steed, RN, who has been the Look Good…Feel Better coordinator at Tanner Breast Health for eight years and dedicates her time to changing the lives of women undergoing cancer treatment. “While receiving suggestions or ‘tricks of the trade,’ there are also opportunities to share experiences that come with a cancer diagnosis. Look Good…Feel Better provides patients the opportunity to bond, make a new friend and find new confidence and a sense of control when so many things feel out of control. And we all know, if we look good, we generally feel better.”
For information or to register for the next Look Good Feel Better session on Monday, Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at Tanner Breast Health in Carrollton, call 770.812.9531. If you are a licensed cosmetologist and would like more information about the program and volunteer training, contact Pam Ashman at 404.582.6120 or Pam.Ashman@cancer.org.
