Amy Eubanks, MD, a board-certified internal medicine provider with Tanner Internal Medicine of Bremen, is one of only 100 Georgia physicians to complete the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) Foundation’s prestigious Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy.
The year-long Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy curriculum includes classes on leadership, conflict resolution, media relations and advocacy. Participants also must design and complete individual leadership projects.
“The GPLA was established to develop physician leaders to improve the health care system in
Georgia,” said S. William Clark III, MD, steering chair for the Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy. “The MAG Foundation is proud that more than 100 physicians have now graduated from the GPLA.”
For her leadership project, Dr. Eubanks helped organize a Diabetes Awareness Day event at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. The event, held in March, kicked off the “Know Your Goals” program. It provided healthy cooking demonstrations, informational booths, health screenings and risk assessments for individuals who have or who are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Flyers about the program will be available in area medical offices, and patients can receive wallet-sized report cards that can be signed off at physician office visits as they reach their diabetes management goals.
“Diabetes can lead to serious health problems, including nerve damage, heart disease, kidney disease, stroke and lower-limb amputations,” said Dr. Eubanks. “You can help prevent these problems by keeping your blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels under control.”
The Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy was established in 2007 to develop physician leaders who will enhance the medical profession and the healthcare system and the quality of life in the Georgia. Other graduates in this year’s Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy came from Atlanta, Douglas, Macon, Marietta, Smyrna, Statesboro, Lilburn and elsewhere. The class included physicians specializing in family medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, orthopedics, psychiatry and more.
