Carol Crews, CPA, senior vice president and chief financial officer for Tanner Health System, has been named for the third consecutive year among the Becker’s Hospital Review list of “150 Hospital and Health System CFOs to Know”, earning Tanner another designation as a top performing health system.
The CFOs published on this list have been recognized as chief financial leaders who have worked to strengthen their organization’s operations and have been instrumental in developing successful hospital and health system strategy.
Crews, who was profiled by Becker’s Hospital Review in 2015, was just one of two chief financial officers from the state of Georgia to be named on the list; Jim Budzinski, executive vice president and CFO of WellStar Health System was the other.
According to Becker’s Hospital Review, the list of “150 Hospital and Health System CFOs to Know” was developed based on a combination of nominations and an editorial review process.
Crews is a certified public accountant and joined Tanner Health System as a staff accountant in 1991, rising through the ranks to serve as a senior accountant, controller and vice president of finance before taking on her current role as CFO. In addition to serving as senior vice president and CFO of Tanner, Crews is a member of the west Georgia chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs, the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Georgia Hospital Association.
As CFO, Crews oversees all business-related activity for the system, including budgets, audits and governmental filings. Her areas of responsibility include accounting, payroll, patient financial services, patient registration and scheduling, health information management, revenue integrity and more.
Tanner Health System and many other members of its executive team have been recognized consistently among other list from Becker’s Hospital Review, adding to the health system’s list of accolades, honors and recognitions.
Becker’s recently named executive vice president and chief medical officer William Waters IV, MD, among its list of ‘100 Top Hospital and Health System CMOs to Know’ for 2018; named Tanner on its list of 100 Great Community Hospitals in 2017 and its list of 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare in 2015; and named Tanner President and CEO Loy Howard among its top “Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs” for 2017 and its “50 Rural Hospital CEOs to Know” for 2015.
