Epic change is on the horizon at Tanner Health System as the organization prepares to implement its new electronic health record (EHR), and the project is creating new career opportunities for many people in the area.
Over the next few months, Tanner will be interviewing a number of new team members to serve as the Epic Focus team dedicated to helping guide the health system’s transition into the new Epic EHR.
In the search to fill its Epic Focus team, Tanner has received 250 internal applications and almost 1,700 external applications, and has interviewed more than 75 candidates for various positions, including project managers, data and system analysts, trainers, IT technicians and more.
Tanner isn’t just looking for new hires — the positions are open to current Tanner team members, too, and all Tanner employees who’ve submitted an application to be a part of the Epic Focus team will have an opportunity for an interview.
“Bringing Epic online will be an enormous undertaking, but it’s a key component in our commitment to provide our patients with the highest quality of health care,” said Greg Schulenburg, chief information officer at Tanner. “Tanner is committed to its patients, and this EHR is going to enable us to provide them with a more streamlined and comprehensive approach to their health care.”
Epic is a state-of-the-art EHR that utilizes a single, unified health record system. The system will allow patients greater access to their health information and enable them to efficiently share their medical information with their medical providers though a system-wide integrated health record.
Upon full integration across the health system, the new EHR will also help improve the health system’s operational efficiency, streamline many clinical and administrative processes and facilitate better communication between patients and healthcare providers, helping Tanner to provide a higher quality of care.
Tanner’s Epic implementation will be a months-long process which will include extensive training for current staff members, as well as hiring for new positions.
“This transition to the Epic EHR is an exciting project for Tanner, and we are thrilled to embark on this new era of health care,” said Schulenburg. “With Epic, we will be able to work more effectively for the benefit of our patients on a unified system. It’s a great leap forward and a major milestone for the health system, and we’re confident that this new EHR will help us transform the healthcare experience here at Tanner, making it better for our patients and our providers.”
