Sports Pain Education Discussion at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica Nov. 7

Sports-related pain can result from a recent trauma or a series of old injuries. The pain can make it difficult to perform our best, whether on the field, the court or the greens. It can also impact our life beyond sports, making it difficult to fulfill our daily obligations.

Dr. Shomari RuffinShomari Ruffin, MD, a board-certified and sports medicine fellowship-trained orthopedic specialist with Carrollton Orthopaedic Clinic and a member of the patient care team at Tanner Ortho and Spine Center, will lead a free educational discussion on treatments for sports pain Monday, Nov. 7, in classrooms A and B of the Education and Conference Center at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica. The Education and Conference Center is located on the third floor of the VillaWest medical office building adjacent to the hospital.

Dinner will be provided to attendees. Interested residents can register themselves and one guest for the free discussion at www.tanner.org/sportsmedicine or by calling 770.214.CARE (2273). Seating is limited, and interested attendees should register as soon as possible. The class is part of Tanner’s Advancing Your Health Education Series.

Dr. Ruffin earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in Jacksonville, Fla. He also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute at Lemak Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics in Birmingham, Ala. He holds bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology from the University of Georgia in Athens and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

The discussion will cover therapeutic and minimally invasive approaches to treat pain.
