Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama auxiliary members gathered at Wedowee First Methodist Church on June 25 to celebrate their hard work and success at their new hospital.
The Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama Auxiliary consists of 40 active volunteers (plus two teen volunteers hosted over the summer) who serve in various roles including greeting and welcoming visitors, helping people find their way, serving as gift shop clerks and acting as host to specific areas of the hospital.
In total, the volunteers have donated over 23,00 lifetime hours. In addition to their gift of service, the group also presented a gift of treasure.
Sharon Smith, Treasurer (left), and Beverly Commander, Chairman (center) presented a check for $5,000 to support the Auxiliary Endowment at Tanner Foundation. The funds were raised from the Classy Cabinet Gift Shop and special sales held since the hospital opened in November.
Accepting the gifts was Mary Busby, Director of Development, Tanner Foundation (right.) “We’re very grateful to the Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama Auxiliary for their hard work and generosity,” said Busby. “This gift is an incredible achievement. Thank you for your dedication to the health of this community.”
The effect of this generosity is felt by patients throughout the hospital. In 2017, all of Tanner’s volunteer services and auxiliaries established an Auxiliary Endowment at Tanner Foundation, ensuring the impact of their generosity will be felt for generations to come.
Including their 2018 gifts, the cumulative donations from the auxiliaries and volunteer groups across Tanner Health System to Tanner Foundation since 1989 exceeds $2.3 million.
In addition to Chairman Commander andTreasurer Smith, The Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama Auxiliary is led by Lucille Burns, Jo Kicker, Barbara Parker, Katie Rampy, Julia White and Mary Worley.
