Tanner Kicks Off #SummerOfHealth

What first comes to mind when you think about summer? Is it relaxing on the beach, napping all afternoon in a hammock or eating barbecue at a cookout?

This summer, don’t let healthy eating and exercise take the back seat on your journey to health.

Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well is inviting the community to participate in the #SummerOfHealth! Get Healthy, Live Well is organizing fun, family-friendly activities that encourage community members to be more active and eat healthier all summer long.

“Get Healthy, Live Well launched this campaign to increase awareness about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle,” said Tanner Community Health Director Amy Riedesel. “What better way to celebrate summer than with fun activities that will get you excited about eating healthy and exercising?”

As part of the campaign, Get Healthy, Live Well will be offering a series of healthy lifestyle challenges throughout the summer. The community is encouraged to share what they are doing to get and stay healthy this summer. They can do this by posting pictures or making comments on social media with the hashtag #SummerOfHealth.

Get Healthy, Live Well has also partnered with the Main Street programs in Carrollton and Villa Rica to host an exciting ”Find the Flamingo” scavenger hunt to kick off the #SummerOfHealth. Visit www.GetHealthyLiveWell.org to download a scavenger hunt passport that includes a list of the flamingo’s hiding places or go to each city’s Main Street office and pick one up. This scavenger hunt will be followed by a Happy Flappy Flamingo Festival on June 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The AMP in Carrollton and on June 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The MILL in Villa Rica.

Check out some of the other fun activities Get Healthy, Live Well has planned for the summer:
·    “Light up the Night” bike ride at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton
·    Health education events before family movie nights at The AMP in Carrollton
·    Kids Exhibit at local libraries during the “Exercise Your Mind” summer reading program

Get Healthy, Live Well is led by Tanner Health System and funded in part by a Partnerships to Improve Community Health (PICH) grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
