Tanner Medical Foundation Holds Kick-Off Reception for 23rd annual Magnolia Ball
Friday, February 15, 2013
A group of community leaders and local volunteers officially kicked off the 2013 Magnolia Ball season with a Feb. 12 reception at the Carrollton home of Greg and Leanna Schulenburg. Co-chairs for this year’s ball, Cindy Denney and Jennifer Green, announced this year’s theme, “Apodrasi se Santorini” (Escape to Santorini) with H.D and Annette Tyson announced as honorary chairs for the event.
The 23rd annual Magnolia Ball will be held Saturday, April 27 on the grounds of the Richards’ family estate and will feature an auction, dinner and dancing. The 2013 Magnolia Ball will benefit a new comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation unit at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.
The new rehabilitation unit will guide patients on their journey back from stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, cardiac complications, multiple sclerosis and other conditions requiring them to re-learn how to perform everyday tasks.
Providing comprehensive rehabilitation services near where patient families live and work will make it easier for families to visit often and provide moral support, participate in the rehabilitation and help patients return to their normal lives.
Last year’s Magnolia Ball raised almost $500,000 for an expansion of surgical services and a new emergency department Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, which are now open and serving patients. An open house on Jan. 26 brought almost 2,000 people to see the new expansion.
Each year, more than 200 volunteers work together to present the annual Magnolia Ball, assisting with every detail from invitations to auction preparations and decorations. In addition, more than 350 individuals and companies support the ball through sponsorships, cash donations, donated auction items and in-kind services.
