Tanner Teaches Kids How to Eat a Rainbow

Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well is putting on a play to remind kids to eat their fruits and vegetables as part of its #SummerOfHealth campaign.

This summer, gardens are bursting with a variety of delicious produce and Get Healthy, Live Well is using a rainbow to represent the full spectrum of foods that should be on kids’ plates each meal. There will be two free public performances of the “Eat a Rainbow” play in July. The play will be performed at the Neva Lomason Memorial Library in Carrollton at 10:30 a.m. on July 12.

Another performance will be held during movie night at The AMP in Carrollton at 7:30 p.m. on July 14. Get Healthy, Live Well kicked off its #SummerOfHealth campaign earlier this month and is organizing fun, family-friendly activities that encourage community members to lead healthy lifestyles all summer long.

“To help make healthy eating fun, Get Healthy, Live Well has enlisted the help of three caped veggie crusaders,” said Patricia Mitchell, wellness and prevention coordinator at Get Healthy, Live Well. “This play teaches kids that ‘eating a rainbow’ helps their body get the complete range of nutrients it needs.”

Kids who attend the play are given a set of five wristbands — each a different color. The bracelets remind them to track the number of fruits and vegetables they eat every day.

The whole family is invited to come and enjoy the summer fun. Families are also encouraged to share photos of themselves having a great time at the play by posting on social media with the hashtag #SummerOfHealth.
