Diabetes Education

Diabetes is a chronic disease that impacts your body’s ability to process sugar, or glucose. You may be born with the disease (type 1 diabetes) or develop it later in life (type 2 diabetes). 

When diagnosed with diabetes, there’s a lot to learn. Checking your blood sugar, changing your diet and adopting healthier habits are essential to controlling diabetes.

Get Healthy, Live Well helps you reduce your risk for diabetes and learn how to manage your condition.  

Diabetes education programs

Through its American Diabetes Association-certified diabetes management program, Get Healthy, Live Well empowers you and your family or caregiver with the knowledge you need to manage diabetes.

Our diabetes education programs include:

  • Diabetes self-management classes
  • Pediatric and adolescent diabetes counseling
  • Gestational diabetes management
  • Type 1 diabetes management
  • Type 2 diabetes management
  • Basic meal planning
  • Carbohydrate counting
  • Insulin pump education
  • Diabetes support groups
  • One-on-one counseling

Diabetes education experts

Diabetes can be as difficult to understand as it is to manage. Our team includes a registered nurse and registered dietitian specialized in diabetes management.

To join a diabetes program

A physician referral is necessary for patients to take some of Tanner's diabetes education classes, and all diabetes management services are offered by appointment only. Search our classes and events calendar for upcoming diabetes classes

The Diabetes Support Group meets on the first Monday of the month from October to May at 7 p.m. in the Health Education and Wellness Learning Center at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. Topics vary each month.
