Infectious Diseases

We can help you overcome complicated, persistent, and unfamiliar infections.

Infectious Diseases

Infectious disease specialists diagnose and treat bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections.

Many infections can be treated by your primary care provider. Our Infectious disease specialists at Infectious Diseases of West Georgia can help if the infection is complicated, persistent, unfamiliar or of unknown origin.

Conditions that infectious disease specialists treat

Infectious Diseases of West Georgia offers expertise in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment or management of infections for patients age 18 or older.

Our team offers expert care for:

  • Bloodstream infections
  • Bone or joint infections from prosthetic devices, like artificial joints
  • Chronic lung infections
  • Chronic wounds
  • Fevers of unknown origin
  • HIV and AIDS
  • Illnesses developed while traveling abroad
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Skin infections

Infectious disease services

We also offer:

  • Initiation of antibiotics to treat cellulitis, urinary tract infections (UTIs) and other infections
  • Management of home health intravenous antibiotics
  • Pre-op assessments to lower surgical risk for people with MRSA
  • Travel medicine to advise people traveling or living abroad, including vaccinations and wellness advice
  • Vaccinations for hepatitis A and B, pneumonia, influenza and rabies
Our team also works closely with hospital staff to diagnose and treat infections on an inpatient basis, as well as to prevent the spread of infections throughout the hospitals to keep patients and visitors safe.

Our team-based approach

We work closely with your referring doctor to give you a team-based approach to your care. Infectious Diseases of West Georgia will communicate with your doctor about your condition, health history and other factors.

After treatment, we will refer you back to your primary care provider for continuing care.

Common Shoulder Pain Red Flags

Shoulder pain is something many people experience at some point. It might start after a tough workout, a weekend of yard work or after a long day sitting at a desk. At Tanner Orthopedics, we want to help you understand when shoulder pain is just a temporary ache — and when it may be time to seek medical care.
