About The DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from complications from the autoimmune disease idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a type of blood platelet disorder.
The Barnes family created the foundation after experiencing extraordinary care when Patrick was hospitalized. That care inspired this unique award honoring and celebrating nurses for the difference they make in the patients' lives every day.
