Indigent care refers to services provided to individuals who lack the financial resources to pay for care. Charity care is similar but may apply to patients who qualify for reduced or free care based on income guidelines and household circumstances. Together, indigent and charity care represent Tanner Health’s commitment to hospital charity and expanding affordable healthcare options for our neighbors in need.

Illness and injury can be devastating for families already struggling to make ends meet. Through hospital charity and community health programs, we provide affordable healthcare options for those who are uninsured, underinsured or facing unexpected medical hardship. Eligibility for indigent care services is generally based on income, family size and financial need, and income limits may apply depending on federal poverty guidelines and individual circumstances.

While indigent care typically serves those with little to no ability to pay, charity care may include partial assistance for patients who can contribute something toward their care. Our team works closely with each family to explain coverage, determine qualification and connect patients to additional support through community health initiatives and community health programs.
